IUSES - Intelligent Use of Energy at School, the
EU-funded project lead by AREA Science Park of Trieste (Italy), has
been shortlisted to be one of the three finalists for the YOUTH
category of the 2012 Energy Globe Award. The prize is a prestigious
international recognition, awarded since 1999 by the Austrian
Energy Globe Foundation, and given every year to innovative
projects focusing on sustainable energy and energy efficiency,
selected among the winners of national competitions.
IUSES, which reached completion in January 2012, encouraged the
intelligent use of energy sources and sustainable mobility among
secondary school students and teachers in 12 countries, promoting
actions addressed to energy saving and education to sustainability.
IUSES, winner of the Italian national competition in June last
year, has now been selected among the over 1,000 candidate
projects, and is the only shortlisted Italian project in the 5
categories. IUSES will compete against projects from Indonesia and
USA to be the winner of the YOUTH category.
The award ceremony will take place in the Banquet Hall of Vienna
Town Hall on Thursday, September 13, from 4 to 5 p.m. The ceremony
is organized in the framework of the 29th CIRIEC
International Congress (September 12-14), focusing this year on
ethics and sustainability in public economic policies.
Following the success obtained by IUSES, the Italian partners
(AREA Science Park and Immaginario Scientifico of Trieste) and the
Slovenian partner (the Slovenski E Forum NGO of Ljubljana) have
decided to launch a further initiative, together with the
Universities of Ferrara (Italy) and Nova Gorica (Slovenia),
embarking on the TESSI - Teaching Sustainability across Italy and
Slovenia project, funded by the Italy-Slovenia territorial
cooperation programme, which started recently.
