The use of glass or mirror glass for room heating. Microglass proposals.

The heat of glass

14.02.2012 -

Nowadays, technological innovation and research enable production with highly diversified characteristics and functionalities, for energy saving, consumption control and comfort. In order to control and modify the quality or quantity of light, for instance, glazed systems have been studied to monitor solar radiation, ventilation and passive heat gain; the use of glass or mirror glass for room heating has been gaining ground. In a market which uses glass in a wide variety of sectors (building, furnishing, domestic appliances, automotive, etc.) the diffusion of innovative solutions which allow glass sheets to produce heat with evident advantages has grown over the last few years.

ONE TOUCH GLASS®, a new system created by Microglass for the set up and control of glass heating has successfully included itself within this sector. Its main innovation - unlike other products on the market - is in being able to programme and command devices with different power strengths thanks to a single software. The system is "universal" as its electronic components adapt to all types of glass. The device integrates software dedicated to the set up and loading of power imposed with a programmable power supply with three power levels (GLASS POWER CONTROLLER®) and is also equipped with a USB cable. ONE TOUCH GLASS SOFTWARE is also available on a USB POWER KEY and is therefore usable with any laptop or desktop computer.

"For some years now, Microglass has been working together with a number of companies, even multinationals, with the objective of fine tuning sheets of heating glass", Alessandro Sonego, the owner of the company tells us "Our work is concentrated on the surface treatment of the material, or rather that which makes it become semi-conductive, generating heat if crossed with an electric current. With ONE TOUCH GLASS® we have resolved the problem of having to use a special transformer for each type of heating glass, ending up, with just a few simple passages and a dedicated USB cable to programme the correct power supply to the glass directly from a pc.

The advantages of using ONE TOUCH GLASS® are many. In buildings equipped with photovoltaic systems, solar energy generated by panels can be used to heat the glass, practically reducing heating production costs to zero. In buildings without photovoltaic panels, the system can supply a heat supplement to rooms that are not adequately heated, without any structural intervention having to be faced: all that is necessary is an electricity source.

In rooms with little space or where traditional radiators would create visual interference, the solution has undoubtable practical and aesthetic implications. Finally, outdoors, the heated glass could resolve condensation problems or be useful in melting snow.

Finally, it should be pointed out that the Microglass Company has also fine-tuned the GLASS POWER CONTROLLER, a micro-processing device that can control the power supplied by the glass in real time, managed thanks to the ONE TOUCH GLASS system. The device guarantees power control feedback and can control the operative conditions of the glass.
